June 16th every year is World Refull Day. This activity aims to encourage people around the world to choose reusable materials to solve the disposable Plastic pollution and Climate crisis, with a view to creating a plastic free ocean, city and community in the future.
Plastic causes global pollution and Climate crisis.
On a global scale, humans use millions of tons of plastic every year. Global plastic production is expected to double again in the next 20 years and almost quadruple by 2050. Most of this plastic is produced through fossil fuels. Therefore, plastics not only pollute our planet, but also exacerbate the global Climate crisis with the use of fossil fuels.
Nowadays, plastic has become ubiquitous - found in the deep sea, in high mountains, and even in human blood and organs. Plastic can enter our bodies through the air we breathe and the food we eat. In 2022, a study published in Environment International detected plastic particles in human blood for the first time. Although some previous studies have found plastic particles in the brain, intestines, placenta of unborn infants, and feces of adults and infants, plastic has never been found in blood samples.
A report by the United Nations Environment Programme in 2018 showed that out of a total of 9 billion tons of plastic products produced worldwide, only 9% were recycled, about 12% were burned, and the remaining 79% were ultimately accumulated in landfills or into the natural environment.
More and more people are realizing the urgent need for humanity to shift from the use of disposable plastics to a sustainable and renewable future.
Stainless steel Food contact materials instead of plastic products.
Stainless steel material is one of the most sustainable and environmentally friendly materials
Excellent performance: beautiful, corrosion-resistant, sturdy, and reusable
Environmentally friendly: 80% of new stainless steel is smelted from scrap steel and electricity
Product utilization: Waste residue can be used for construction and paving
Low carbon emissions: 96% of stainless steel is recyclable, with CO2 emissions of approximately 2.5 tons
On the World Refill Day, people will show on social media the takeout/lunch boxes, water cups, Coffee cup and other recyclable and reusable tableware made of stainless steel materials being used in life (usually these items will be plastic or disposable plastic). Therefore, people do not need to manufacture and transport new containers for their next food or beverage, which also means that no plastic will be discarded.
We can encourage family, friends and colleagues to participate in the World Refill Day, and show the world that the use of stainless steel materials is becoming one of the important solutions to Plastic pollution and Climate crisis!
